Wedding at The Haycock Hotel Wansford

I was delighted when Emma & James commissioned me to shoot their wedding at the Haycock Hotel Wansford. Both are keen amateur photographers with a great understanding of photography; albeit under very different circumstances. During their leisure time they can be found scrambling up and clinging to the side of a mountain photographing jet airplanes! The church ceremony was held at St Mary’s Church Warmington near Oundle, and wedding reception at the Haycock hotel in Wansford. I began my wedding day coverage with Emma’s preparations in the Haycock hotel’s honeymoon suite.

After an hour or so I made my way out in the snow to St Mary’s Warmington a few miles away. I can’t remember a day where the snow began to fall in the early hours of the morning and continued without respite all day, in fact the snow was still falling and settling at 10.30pm when I began my journey home from the Haycock hotel! Fortunately, for the most part the snow was fairly light and with exception of some cold winds and the occasional blast of horizontal snow James and Emma’s wedding day went ahead without a glitch.

If you would like an informal documentary wedding photographer, are considering getting married at the Haycock hotel or are considering having your wedding at the St Mary’s Church, Warmington please don’t hesitate to contact me.

I have seen some arrivals and departures to and from church (see the vintage wedding adventure for an alternative way to leave church). However, I think it unlikely that I will see a groom arrive by an enormous, blue tractor again. A rather apt choice really considering the weather, clearly there was no chance of anybody getting stuck in the snow today! A rather cool Warmington church was soon warmed by James and Emma and their family and friends during a light hearted and at times humorous wedding ceremony. I had chosen to use the fuji x-pro1 my smallest camera for most of the photos during the ceremony.

I was positioned in front of the bride and groom and wanted remain as inconspicuous as was possible. Most of photographs during this period were captured with black and white being the intended end format. After a few shots outside and leaving St Mary’s church in Warmington in the snow we headed back to the Haycock hotel where I greeted the wedding car as it arrived over the bridge in Wansford. As this was the only time I’d see the wedding car out on the road I decided to use the opportunity to take a few brief photos and make sure James and Emma had a momento of their wedding day car for years to come.

Due to the weather I setup my lighting gear inside for the wedding party and family photographs we had already planned. Although know he Haycock and have photographed here many ties before I had earmarked a reception area with a lovely fireplace for the group wedding party photographs, most of the other rooms in the hotel were use for the following days wedding fayre. The results were pleasing, I was aiming for a slightly regal feel to them and wanted them to be interesting to look at so used different seating and standing compositions for each group photograph.

Later in the day, following the wedding breakfast I took James and Emma off for 20 mins. Sadly the weather was far too cold to get outside at this time so we made the most of the Haycock interior. We used a couple of areas around the hotel to take some loosely directed photographs of them both together before they returned to their wedding guests for more drinks.

Due a slight delay later in the evening before the first dance could be held. I pulled the Photo booth forward an hour from the planned time ,this ensured that the wedding guests had plenty of entertainment until the first dance and evening disco kicked off around 9.30pm

We first came across Peter at the East of England show ground wedding fare a few years back. Both Emma and I are keen photographers and we were looking for a certain style for our wedding day. Out of the large number of photographers there on the day, Peter’s shots stood out. Full of life, colour and depth, a certain quality that a lot of wedding photographers miss in my opinion.

Once commissioned, Peter had a number of sessions with us to understand what photos we were after and tested what we were like, under the camera as well.

His manner and style are second to none and could not cater more for us on the day, under less than perfect conditions. In our eyes he has captured our day perfectly and we could not have asked for more.

Well done Peter, I would recommend this guy to anyone looking to commission him for a wedding.
